Camden People’s Theatre

PROGRAMMING AIMS

CPT supports emerging artists to make inventive theatre – particularly about issues that matter to people right now. We prioritise bold, unexpected, unusual theatre and performance, often from artists at the start of their career, and which addresses the issues that matter to people now. We like work that is radical, entertaining – and that brings new audiences to theatre. We seek out work that speaks to our status as a ‘people’s theatre’ and that blurs boundaries between professional and community, art and engagement.

TYPES OF PERFORMANCE THE VENUE IS SUITABLE FOR

CPT’s main performance space is a 63-seat black box studio theatre. We also have a basement rehearsal studio that is occasionally used for performance. We are therefore most suitable for relatively small-scale shows, performances by solo artists and small companies, and shows without a ‘fourth wall’. Our usual programme consists of work usually but not exclusively by younger artists, in the fields of contemporary performance, theatre and performance art, multimedia work and cross-disciplinary work. We don’t tend to stage new writing and/or ‘plays’ as traditionally understood.

Details on our spaces are here.

DATES OF FESTIVAL PERFORMANCES

Mon 18th to Sun 24th November.

NUMBER OF PERFORMANCES

We anticipate programming shows for between 1 and 3 performances each, but are happy to consider week-long runs. It’s worth noting that CPT programmes two shows per evening, one in a 7.15pm slot, the other in a 9pm slot.

RUNNING TIMES

We usually programme two shows per evening, so the shows we programme will usually be 50-70mins in duration.

TECH TIMES

Usually you will be offered a 3.5-hour tech slot on the day of your first performance.

TURNAROUND TIMES & VENUE ACCES

We programme two shows per evening. The standard schedule is approx. 30 minutes stage access to get in before your performance, 60 minutes performance, and 15 minutes stage access to get out after your performance. (Separate from your tech rehearsal time.) You will need to plan how to get your set, costumes, and props on and off stage within these 15-minute turnaround times.

TECHNICIANS

CPT provides a technician for your get-in and to operate performances. If your show
requires more than one technical operator (lights, sound, video, surtitles, etc), then your
company will need to provide any additional tech staff needed.
